Bendigo is blessed to be playing host to a colony of Flying Foxes at Rosalind Park, The bats are considered threatened wildlife and therefore are protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. The Flying Foxes are believed to have first arrived in 2010 and have now an established breeding and maternity camp. Loss of habitat is a major threat to Flying Foxes who are essential for seed dispersal and pollination. We don’t know how long they will stay at Rosalind Park, but in the meantime, we support and celebrate this opportunity to share the park with such unique and precious wildlife and hopefully stem their decline.
